Eluvium - Similes (2010)

I've been listening to Eluvium or Matthew Cooper the man behind it, for a long time now. It has helped me to sleep better, to calm down and focus on some things - just like now, writing this mini-review.

Eluvium has never been very clear to me, what genre or what kind of music it is. I never searched Cooper on Google to find how he looks, but I regularly scrobble his songs on my Last.fm profile, and it's always past 11PM.

Similes is a very different album, but in the core it's the same energy that's powering the wonderful melodies. The first song "Leaves Eclipse The Light" just seems a bit dull and shallow when comparing to the other Eluvium music, but when "The Motion Takes Me Last" comes in, you forget about it - and just realize that it's just a good introduction.
As the album progresses, you'll find out that it's more spongy - it just sticks to your ears, and makes you feel a bit sleepy.

Overall, the album is a very good extension to the discography of Eluvium, but at the same time it gives the world a new breed of music that helps you psychologically. It's one of those albums and artists that will make you love the rain and cloudy weather, and feel great at the same time!
