How-to: Stop 100% disk usage on Windows 7/8

Dear readers, I'm happy to tell you that I recently solved my problem with my second laptop, and I decided to share it with you guys.

The problem with my laptop was that I was running it with only 1GB of RAM (one chip) and that at all times the disk usage was 100% when i viewed this in the task manager (Windows 8). I solved it by adding more RAM (2GB + 1GB), and the computer stabilized a lot!

Of course, in your case it may be a faulty drive - but just please consider this: You may be low on memory, or your memory may be faulty.

Take care!

La Jetée (1962)

La Jetée is a science-fiction film in black and white (featurette) made out mostly of still images. It shares the story of post-war experiments with time-travel, and it's one of the movies that's inspired the cult film "12 Monkeys".

An image from the room where the inmates are being experimented on
The movie is set in Paris, France and explains how a nuclear war erupted, and for the people to survive they went living underground. Scientists research time travel and the inmates are used as guinea pigs. You can read the plot here, as we're moving to a more technical review style now.

The story moved accordingly, and somewhere the English voice-over was bad and I couldn't understand some things. Happily those moments were very rare, just like the scientists whispering on German (at least it sounded like that).
The shots are absolutely amazing when underground, giving the whole movie a special atmosphere that can be described as post-apocalyptic with a glance of psychological thriller feeling.

The sound effects were also very good, and the ambient created by the pictures and the music was great, something that I haven't heard on any other movie before. The narrator was calm and was just reading, but this was blended in a good way with the movie.

The feeling that it gave me after watching wasn't as strong as "12 Monkeys", but maybe that's because from my perspective it failed at the pre-war period showing regular images that sometimes didn't even make sense. Nevertheless; La Jetée is a classic and will remain in my memories like a good movie. I'm still new to this "still photos" thing, but the story is amazing and touching. One of the most beautiful and deep post-apocalyptic science-fiction stories I've ever experienced.

8/10

Eluvium - Similes (2010)

I've been listening to Eluvium or Matthew Cooper the man behind it, for a long time now. It has helped me to sleep better, to calm down and focus on some things - just like now, writing this mini-review.

Eluvium has never been very clear to me, what genre or what kind of music it is. I never searched Cooper on Google to find how he looks, but I regularly scrobble his songs on my Last.fm profile, and it's always past 11PM.

Similes is a very different album, but in the core it's the same energy that's powering the wonderful melodies. The first song "Leaves Eclipse The Light" just seems a bit dull and shallow when comparing to the other Eluvium music, but when "The Motion Takes Me Last" comes in, you forget about it - and just realize that it's just a good introduction.
As the album progresses, you'll find out that it's more spongy - it just sticks to your ears, and makes you feel a bit sleepy.

Overall, the album is a very good extension to the discography of Eluvium, but at the same time it gives the world a new breed of music that helps you psychologically. It's one of those albums and artists that will make you love the rain and cloudy weather, and feel great at the same time!
